Sailing Into Summer: Christopher Cross Hits the Road With Toto and The Romantics
By Jay Sands | SNR News
Some tours are just tours. You buy a ticket, you show up, you go home. Then there are the ones that feel like someone reached into your past and handed it back to you, still warm.
That is what is happening this summer when Christopher Cross joins forces with Toto and The Romantics for a 32-date run across North America. The tour kicks off July 15 at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in New York and wraps August 30 in Toronto. Thirty-two cities. Three legends. One stage.
Cross is no stranger to big moments. His 1980 self-titled debut made Grammy history, sweeping all four major awards in a single year -- Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist. Nobody had done it before. Very few have come close since. Sailing was not just a hit. It was a feeling. And if you were alive when it was on the radio, you never quite forgot it.
Toto brings their own weight to the bill. Africa alone has crossed two billion streams on Spotify. Two billion. That is not nostalgia. That is a song that refused to stop mattering.
The Romantics round out the night with the kind of energy that makes you realize What I Like About You never actually got old. It just waited.
This is the summer tour for people who know what real songwriting sounds like. Get your tickets before someone else takes your seat.
